I have looked and searched fora fix to my problem and cant seem to find one, perhaps someone here can help.

I'm running ManDrake 8.2, KDE 3.0.3, and the latest nvidia drivers for my geforce3 which are working right!

I have installed the linux demo of Return to Castle Wolfenstein along with the full version using the windows cd.

Both version run fine under gnome 1.4, however I hate gnome...

Under KDE 3.0.3 all I get is a black screen and if I move my mouse Im looking at my desktop at 640x48 (its really ugly)....

I have learned that if I tell KDE to not load the arts sound server I can get RTCW to work sometimes however this causes problems with Xmms and other programs that use/play audio.

I do relize that gnome uses esound for audio while kde uses arts.

There has got to be a way to get rtcw to run under KDE 3.0.3 using the arts sound server.

Will someone please help me before I give up on linux and go back to windows

Update: Iv now learned that UT has the same problem, however It still loads with the arts sound server installed.

In case it might be useful Im using the Cmedia 8732 soundchip which is onboard my Soyo dragon+

um, you're not running this as root, right?

To get the above info, yes.........I dont see why running it as root has anything to do with my problem however the same things happens under my normal user......

Yes that is the MPdemo I was trying to run, I dont plan on playing online so dont worry about the reasons why I shouldnt run it as root
