Hello,

Please can someone help me?

For two months now I have tried and tried without joy to get my USB Modem to work with Redhat.

I have tried every tutorial / guide I can find on the web to install it. Using the Alcatel Driver and the PPPOA guide.

The USB Card is detected and the modem hot plugs, messages.log shows that a device is detected but not recognised.

It should say Alcatel Speedtouch USB Modem V.xxx but it doesnt.

When I run the startup script ... usually ./startadsl it connects with the modem but will fail... timeout.

Has anyone got it working with a tutorial or has a really simple step by step guide that they know works? please :D

I really want to use my connection, but looks like Im gonna have to use my nasty windows box instead...

Hiya,

After a very long time and 6 and a half hours! :D I've finally connected.... wOO wOO!

I'll will be writing a complete Newbie Guide on how I did it over the next few days, and will post it up when its done.

I use Redhat 7.3 with the Alcatel Speedtouch USB Modem and Freeserve Broadband.

Cheers for all the advice over the last months... its all helped :D ... now I've just gotta secure the thing !!

Hi AndrewBeaton,

I am a newbie that just successfully installed RedHat 7.3 2 today. I too have this SpeedTouch USB Modem and my ISP provided PPPoA connection. However, I am still unable to setup my connection...

Is it possible for u to provide me with the steps of how u completed this massive task? Thank you very much! :D

Hi Marcus,

Sure, if you could send me an email to linux@andrewbeaton.co.uk and as soon as its complete (I've been sooo busy recently) I'll send you out a copy.

I'm reinstalling it tonight so that I can make the notes this time.

Hiya,

I have now written the guide, and after using it I'm now back online with my network :D

Its in a step by step format and also includes the files needed for the install.

It works for me on a Redhat 7.3 box.

If you use it and it gets you online then please drop me an email to say that it works.

Cheers,
