Hi Everyone,

No idea how to get two monitors/video cards running with X and KDE.

I'd RTFM, if I could find it.

Red Hat 7.3, ATI All-In-Blunder Pro (Rage Pro) PCI, ATI Xpert@Pray 98 (Rage Pro) PCI.

When I plugged the second video card into the machine, Kudzo detected it, and attempted to configure X for me. All I ended up doing was resetting the resolution for my (rather limited) secondary monitor.

The secondary display remained blank.

So,

1. Will two ATI Rage Pro chipset support dual displays? If not, will a Rage Pro and something else support it? (I should pick up an AGP video card, but I need desktop area more than speed, and I had the PCI cards kicking around.)

2. How can I get any sort of sign that the kernel has acknowleged this second display adapter? I assume that I should see a console response before I can really expect X to do anything with it.

3. What do I need to do to get X to accept it? I assume when X loads, I should see the familiar gray screen on both monitors and be able to move the x pointer from screen to screen.

4. How do I tell KDE what I've got, or will it simply run at the resolution defined by X?

Knowing from somewhere that KDE doesn't recognize dual displays as anything more than a very wide monitor, when will true dual-desktop behavior (ie. maximizing a window fills a single screen, instead of spanning both) be incorporated?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, and will form the basis for a How-To which I promise to write.

Thanks!

Lawrence Wade
