I've been trying all day to watch those divx movies I was running on windows to run on Linux. But getting them to run on linux has proven to be a bit complicated. Anyone care to enlighten me? I've tried many ways to install it. But for some reason when I get the "install.sh" file running in the console it keeps giving me error mesages files not found required to complete install and such. help.:(

http://www.divx.com/divx/linux/

"DivX video is available on the Linux (x86) platform as a codec library. The codec will allow you to use DivX video with third party encoding and player applications."

What player are you trying to use?

Really, I don't know that much about linux. This is my first day ever running a linux computer. I know that you can install the codec. I just have no idea how to use it. (ie: install). And as far as players go, Im open for suggestions.

I was in the same position not too long ago. I tried to get Lord of the Rings to work in linux, the problem is, the movie file was in .avi format. I couldn't really find any linux divx codec, so this is what I did

I went to cnet.com and did a search for divx, and I got, some windows exe file, it was like divx502 bundle or something like that (I deleted the executable (oops) ) and I knew that linux could read windows files through wine (windows emulator) so I downloaded it

I downloaded the file and opened up my konsole and typed

wine divxbundle502.exe --winver win98

and then you hit enter, you get some menus and then you follow the onscreen instructions and it should install if your /home/user/.wine/config file is right. I hope this helps

OHH DUDE!!! I LOVE YOU OMG! IM SO CLOSE! (one little set back though), I'T FREEZES ON ME. ANd anyways. After installing it. It says it installed to: "C:\Program Files\DivX 5.02" That file does not exist in Linux, or does it? what do I do to run the program after it's actually installed?

Scratch that... I don't love you. (yet at least). It keeps freezing. Is it because I picked the wrong path to save it. I'm pretty sure there has to be something wrong with me installing it on: C:\Program Files\DivX, Or is this how the emulator works? Urgentness in this. Maybe some people think that it's not. But it is for me. I though I was gonna be watching Fight Club on my linux machine by tonight :(

MPlayer plays DIVX beautifully. No need to use a windows program to play them. Tons of help on the site. Here is another HOW-TO, but im not sure how up to date it is: http://spiritisdigital.com/linux/howtos/MPlayerfromsources.htm
