Tux racer -- beating the 3rd level (the jumps one)

Hey..

I've been playing tux racer. I can beat the first two levels with my eyes closed, but I can't beat the third one! Is it possible? I go full speed and get all the herring, but I have never achieved a time of under 33 seconds. I need 30- to win! What am I doing wrong? I'm about to pull my hair out! :D

Accelerate while flying through the air, you'll land going 70 or so, just make sure to set up the jumps correctly, you won't have time to correct.

If you're already going ~65 or so, and you're either in the air or on ice, then not hitting the up-arrow (or whatever you have bound to accelerate) actually makes you go faster.

If you've played (practice mode or something) Who Says Penguins Can't Fly?, then you can see the same effect -- that whole level is ice. Once you get >65kph, don't hit forward, and you can knock half the time off that level. And get some serious air ;) .

Hey guys can you help me a bit:
I use Mdk8.2 and when I try to open TuxRacer ......just nothing happens.......

Well, that's a tough one. See, we don't have any kind of error message to work from... ;) :p

What's the result of typing tuxracer in a terminal? If it complains something about "extension GLX missing on display :0.0", then you need to install 3D drivers for your video card (edit: if that's the problem, what video card do you use?). If it's some other error, post it (as close to an exact copy as possible), and we'll see if somebody knows.

I had this same problem. When I would open Tux, it would just play the sound but show no picture. I wasn't in urgent need to play the game, but I did notice, after I installed my TNT2Ultra driver, the game worked.

Install your video cards, if they don't have any you probably just can't play. I'm not sure, but it may take a lot of video resources. :confused:

TuxRacer does indeed use a *lot* of 3D horsepower. But that's just to make Tux realistic... ;)

My video card is the nvidia GeForce 2 MX 64MB RAM.

So I think I've to go to the website of nvidia and look for some linux drivers...

I installed the GLX rpm and the kernel rpm for Mdk8.2 and it is still the same error!

Did you read the text file called readme.txt on the nvidia site? It tells you to edit your XF86config-4 file. If you don't, it'll never work.

well as a newbie to linux but "a trained windowz customer" I used not to read READMEs as they are written in case of Windows to tell you you should click install.exe and agree to the terms of license...

You have plent of time in the second leve. The key is to get all of the fish. Knowing this, just stay fast on the first turn or two, then on the third turn slow down by hitting the down arrow. This will make sure you have full control to pick up the fish on the corner. Unless you aren't getting a good start, time shouldn't be a problem at all.

Read the replies I got on the third level. I couldn't figure it out either. In a nutshell, once you get off the third ramp, let go of the forward button and you will go a lot faster.

I think its tux racer. If its the game that has a tiny little car from top view then no..i can run that fine. I cant run some other racer game. TOO SLOW. 4mb vid card. Oh well.
