I want to program in linux .I have some experience about c and c++ in windows. Should I start from c or Perl ? does anyone has some good advice?

To start with port some things you wrote in windows to Linux, especially graphical stuff, and try to make it as cross-platform as possible.

As a second language on Linux learn perl or python, people seem to like python quite a lot and it is a lot easier to learn than perl although not so many programs in the wild are written in python it seems.

Make sure you don't "waste" your C knowledge. The vast majority of Linux programs are written in C (including the kernel) so you are very likely to need to read some source at some point. Contaminating your knowledge with Java wouldn't help in this case.

At least for some of us, the are only two languages to program in, C and Perl and I don't know any Perl yet...

Must be hard to get a job when your resume says "I only know one language and that's the most you'll ever get me to know".

im just starting my cs degree and java is my first major course.
i know the basics of c++ but i plan on learning more java and c++ and later perl jsp or asp and maybe others oh and xml
