Anybody have any luck getting this to work properly? I had no trouble with older Half-life versions, but this version is the one CS 1.5 is based on, and it seems to be ****ing up pretty bad with Wine. I'm finally on an insanely fast connection and I can't play my favorite game? What torture is this...

Yeah, but I haven't played for almost 2 years because of being on a 56k. I guess I should have specified newest, not just plain new. Anyway, I discovered that as long as I just +connect straight to a server, it works fine. So I've been using xqf as a server browser and doing it that way. Only problem is with fullscreen unmanaged HL it doesn't accept keyboard input, so I have to make a 1024x768 wine desktop, change my res manually, and slide around until it's centered. Kind of annoying, but once I get it setup it's just the same. I've been playing all night.

Your torture comes from Valves wonderful new "Valve Anti-Cheat" module (VAC)
This brilliantly detects Linux as a cheat, so us Linux users are lame-o's that shoudl use a 'real' OS...or something like that ;)

The only way around this is to play on a "non-secure" CS server (these are located by the yellow ! through the in-game browser)

I guess Valve is aware of the and are "looking into it", but until the the only choice you have is find these "in-secure servers", very few are around, or play in Windows :(
