hi all,
i've been trying all day to figure out how to make X (4.1.0) run at 1024x768@100Hz but it just doesn't want to cooperate with me. When I enter the proper settings for my Monitor (Samsung Syncmaster 700IFT) and video (Radeon 8500) I get an absurdly high resolution running at 60Hz. This would be fine if I could read anything that small and not go nuts from staring at 60Hz but I can't.
I tried setting the VertSync rate in XF86Config from 50-160 to 85-160 and that has allowed me to run at a much more acceptable 1280x1024@85Hz but it's still not right and that seems like a pretty half-assed method of doing things.
How do I set X to display the desired resolution/refresh?

Peace Out,
tommyj

What I've read in previous posts here at LNO is that you need X4.2 for the Radeon 8500.

Have a look at http://gatos.sourceforge.net to see what they have to say about the 8500.

Also checkout ATI's site to see if they mention anything about the 8500 and Linux.
