I have SuSE 7.3 installed on a Dell with a Pentium 133 and 48 megs of ram. KDE is really slow on this box and Gnome isn't much better. What would be a good wm to run on it? Blackbox? Fluxbox?

Small, quick, and it's easy for my simple brain to figure out :-) nunder 08-20-2002, 02:35 PM oops, no good post about Afterstep would be complete without a link: http://www.afterstep.org Timothy L. Miller 08-20-2002, 02:37 PM Any of the lighter weight wm's would be work well. enlightenment, waimea, blackbox, fluxbox, afterstep as mentioned, windowmanager... I'd say download several and try them out, then use the one you have the best success with. littleman 08-20-2002, 02:51 PM If you are more into the win95 type of desktop ICEwm would also be a good choice, it is a very good wm. My choice would be fluxbox. guan 08-21-2002, 09:32 AM Ok, I decided to go with fluxbox. I have it all installed, but now I don't know how to run it. I tried switchdesk fluxbox, but it says "switchdesk command not found". I use GDM to log in and I would like to have Fluxbox as one of my options for a Window Manager, but I don't know how to do it. I tried man gdm and info gdm, but there isn't an entry for either. Anyone know how to do this? littleman 08-21-2002, 11:11 PM Go to /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/ (path might very) do an ls -l and you will see a bunch of files with the name of the window managers in there. Copy the format for fluxbox. It might look something like this: #!/bin/sh exec /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession fluxbox But make sure you check the paths. Then chmod the file to 755. It should be there in the GDM menu after that. justlinux.com
