2) what ways is there to play games in Linux?
3) what framerates can you get in Linux (compared to windows)
4) is there a hell-of-a-time for each game you wish to install, or is there only the "initial"?
i have a p3 800, gayforce2 64 mb, 256 mb ram with dual boot and i realy wan't to see how far i can throw my windows cds, but i also love games! (so i want something that WORKS)

To find out whether a question has been asked before, search the Formum! There is a search button near the top of each linuxnewbie.org page.
I found this link in an earlier thread, could be helpful to you:
click me! (http://appdb.codeweavers.com/appbrowse.php?catId=2)
If searching the forum doesn't help try a search at
Google for Linux (http://www.google.com/linux)
Having done that you shouldn't feel sorry for asking an old
question.
This site is about help for newbies!

yeah, i knew about the search function. the thing is i donīt now how i should ask it. i don't belive an question like: is winex any good? would show any posts. and only searching for something like winex will take forever to find anything by! but mayby thats the way to work? is there any special rules that i should now when searching a forum, or is it like searching with google?
the links was perfect, thanks! linux google was a pleasant suprise that will hopefully help in the future!
is there any more "golden" pages anyone cares to share?

I searched the forum for "linux games" and was lucky.
(After viewing through a few threads that seemed related)
The main thing is probably to make sure, the same question
doesn't get asked every other day. Thats what I was told.

Just trying to share what I was told while new to this
forum (1 month ago...)
I didn't mean to say that you did anything wrong with your first
post.
From what I've heard, Windows games still work best under
windows, but maybe someone else could give you a more
detailed answer.

hmm 1 month and 100 posts. thats impressive (i think)! now im of to bed, linux is fun but its time demanding! i managed to make a samba server today and tomorrow im going to config my printer. "linux is not a OS its a hobby" i picked that line up somewere and starting to realise how true it is! i think im going to give linux a shot of gaming tomorrow (eh, today) too and we'll see! maybe its worthy...
THX for the help!

Linux gaming is getting better everyday. If Transgaming would just cut the crap and give up, we'd most likely make even better progress sooner.
I have a list of games on my site that are ported NATIVELY to Linux: http://mdkxp.by-a.com/htm/articles/gamelist.php
I buy all the Loki games I can.
I gave up over 100 Windows games not too long ago... I don't have time to play all the games, and they are kinda getting old now anyhow.
I don't buy games unless they are native ports for Linux now (ie: AVP Gold, I just got it two days ago because Icculus.opg ported it).
If you want the gaming market to increase, you need to make contact with the developers and publishers and let them know you exist... They think NO ONE uses Linux. Why is that? Because most "Linux users" still buy Windows games and don't bother contacting the developers about native ports...

If you have tried Mandrake they have a program they call Mandrake Gaming Edition that allows you to play Windows games on Linux

Just found a cool site with native game ports to linux:
Games! (http://mdkxp.by-a.com/htm/articles/gamelist.php)
It took me about 10 minutes to get Quake III Arena for Linux working! It Rocks!

Not exactly...it uses Transgaming WineX to emulate running Windows games, for details on what works and doesn't check out www.transgaming.com
But it does come with a native port of The Sims:cool: but none of the expansions work
But I'm not going to pay $80 for a game I already have and a distro I'll never use...

Actually the version of the Sims that comes with Mandrake is running through WineX.

In a way it does, but it's more of a port then WineX (http://linuxnewbie.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=53358&highlight=robocode)
TransGaming's fully optimized Linux version of Maxis' hit title works perfectly. Packaged Windows version will *not* work well with standard WineX due to lack of optimizations
And if you can get it to run any better then I can, share the info...
[mahdi@Seitch_Tabr cdrom]$ winex -debugmsg +err Setup.exe
err:midi:OSS_MidiInit ioctl on midi info for device 0 failed.
