I have installed Linux 7.3, and have a beautiful desktop to play with, but NONE of my USB devices (printer or scanner) work.

I have a NEC cd-changer that will not work properly (everyone I talked to says it will (but it don't know that)

I have read articles, help files, manual pages till I am blue in the face, now I need one on one help.

Everything I have read is just generalizations (good information to be sure) but nothing specific.

Please, help!!!

JUST TO MAKE SURE that the printer was seen, I unhooked the USB cable and put on the parallel cable, and the thing prints like a mad man!! So at least I know the printer IS WORKING. Just NOT AS USB.

I don't want to state the obvious, but it sounds like your USB isn't set up properly, if at all.

Have you tried the Linux USB project site?

They're at "http://www.linux-usb.org/" and have a very helpful Linux USB guide.

Another thing, have you tried plugging in one of your USB devices while at the command line? On my linux box a message appears stating what piece of hardware has just been plugged in (if linux recognizes it!) - if you're not seeing this it may be your linux doesn't know you have USB, or hasn't detected it properly when you installed.

Everything I saw at the Linux-usb site was generalizations; nothing specific. Said 'this should work', 'that should do that', etc., etc.

Said NOTHING about how to make sure your system is (1) recognizing USB ports, and (2) how to set up the ports for the devices.

Sorry if I sound rude, I am nearly at wits' end. If I can get my printer to work, I will feel better. -

driver (really doesn't matter - all work under parallel use)

not seeing it as usb
