I have just installed RedHat 7.3. I boot with my scanner powered up. sane does not detect the scanner. Any ideas about what I should try?

I've never used a scanner with Linux. Actually I don't even own a scanner.

Have you tried the docs/tutorials/faq's and supported scanner list at http://www.mostang.com/sane/ ?

Hopefully something there will help.

md,

The scanner is supported by sane - I just can't see it.

I've tried the procedure suggested at http://users.linpro.no/janl/scanner/
but had no luck with that either.

I can use the scanner fine, with Vuescan or the Nikon supplied software, on Windows (Gee, am I allowed to admit that I also have Windows on my machine?)

I see my distro has /etc/sane.d of which contains all sorts of config files for scanner models plus the main saned.conf.

Have you looked around in there and made any necessary configuration changes?

Are all the required modules loaded for the scanner?
