Ok, I've been trying to get my DSL connection to work (Bell Sympatico) but I cant. I've read like every hit from google.com/linux but nothing helped. I dloaded rp-pppoe but that didn't work, I dloaded the pppoe thing but it wouldn't even install. I have Red Hat 7.2 so I think it may already have included pppoe. I tried to get Red Hat to setup my connection but it also didn't work. This is the error I get when Red Hat tries to "initialize the PPP0 Interface":
Time Out (some other stuff) $CONNECT "$@" > /dev/null 2 >&1

It began initializing PPP0 after I setup my dsl in red hat. Also there's a reference to adsl-start somewhere in there. I get a simmilar message under rp-pppoe. Please, someone help, at least tell me what's wrong. I'm so tired, I spent all day trying so far.

Is your ppoe.conf file configured correctly? Make sure it's pointing to the correct ethernet interface that connects to your ADSL modem. Also, check your pap-secrets file and make sure your username and password are correct.

Did you setup rp-pppoe with adsl-setup?

I've configured it properly I think. I have a windows box that connects to the modem and I want to change it to the linux box. My User ID is microsys@on.aibn.com instead of sympatico.ca. I don't know why but thats the name the Win machine uses and it works. I installed the RP-pppoe with the GUI. I know that adsl-start is there and I tried it too but it doesn't work either. I try to run the pppoe command but it says Timeout waiting for PAD0 packets. What could this mean?
