I have SuSE 8.0 and Win98 installed on one of my computers. I have a 2Wire HomePortal router to allow both computers to access my DSL modem. Both computers properly access the Internet with Windows 98. I want to be able to access the Internet from Linux, but Linux doesn't recognize my router or the Internet. As far as I can tell, the Ethernet card is configured properly in Linux.
Help!!!!!
You'll at least need to tell Linux that the IP of the router is the default gateway address. I haven't used SuSE, but I know it comes with a configuration utility called YaST which you should be able to use to enter your networking information (Gateway IP hostname, DNS server IPs, etc.).

The router uses dynamic IP addressing, so I can't specify the gateway IP, etc. I set Linux for automatic DHCP, but am not getting anywhere.

Interesting note: I disconnected my computer from the router and hooked it directly to the DSL modem. I configured the host IP and so forth for the DSL, and it worked perfectly. I then reconnected my computer to the router without changing any network settings, and it worked perfectly. When I turned off the computer or re-booted with it still hooked to the router, it didn't work anymore, until I repeated the process.
What the ?!#@$
