Basically the beeps are too loud. How do I turn it down? I unplugged it, but would like to know if there is any command that turns down the internal speaker volume.
Both:
$ audiocontrol
$ sdtaudiocontrol
didn't work.
--------------
Beep is good, only when it's not so loud.

Depending on which desktop environment you use, there should be a 'config tool' for that under some variant of 'Control Center'.

Open up your box and unplug the (infernal:D) internal speaker. Who needs those system warnings and internal beeps anyways. I know I don't listen!;) :D

The sound mixer included with your distro may have a volume control for the internal speaker.

I tried several .conf files under /etc, but sill no vail (Some I don't understand).
They include:
/etc/sensor.conf
/etc/sysconfig/pcmcia
/etc/sound/events/...
/etc/warnquota.conf
Here is a good link on sound cards, not what I wanted, but good link:)

for an internal speaker on redhat linux 7.3 I go to the control center then sound then system bell I can turn on and off the system bell instead of system notification and I can change the volume, pitch, and duration. if you are using a system notification instead go to control center then sound the system notifications and it has a volume bar.
If memory serves me this menu is the same redhat 7.1 even if I couldn't get my sound to work under 7.1(so I wouldn't expect a dramatic change between 7.1 and 7.3)

If all else fails you can open your computer and stuff tissue paper (like kleenex) infront of your speaker and wad it up. It should muffle the sound and it is the easiest way to do it. This solution is not technical and it was done in a business office I visited when I was a little kid. I guess quite is good ettiquite around some people (now if only I shut my mouth... Naaa) :D
if my first idea doesn't work I hope this helps
