Can anybody give a tutorial about how to make Suse Linux network with Windows XP using Samba?

I am using a DSL connection with a SMC router. Connected to the router are three pcs, two of the Windows XP Pro, the third is linux box on which i am running ftp, http, and SSH services,etc....

ftp, http, and SSH are working fine now.

Took me a lot of time. but i can't make Samba work on that Suse box(8.0 Pro). I can use smbclient command with instructions from http://www.hackinthebox.org/article.php?sid=5719 . When I tried to mount it to /mnt/warehouse using smbmount or mount, it was successful. but i can't use the mount point. it is always busy. In KDE, i can't use open the warehouse directory either.

In windows xp, i can see that linux box in workgroup but don't have permission to use it.

what's wrong with it?
anyone has experience networking Linux with XP? or has a link to a useful resource specific to my situation?

pilypala, have you checked your firewall?

i had the same problem.... i could see my linux box from xp but when i double clicked it, i got an error message saying that i did not have permission.

as soon as i added an ipchain rule to accept the ports samba uses (137-139) from my xp machine everthing worked.

I can access linux from windows xp now.
What I did is that i change smb.conf to make [public] section that I defined(path=/) guest-ok. And I am making root as the guest account!! Probably linux gurus won't suggest it and most ppl will laught at this and call it "the most stupid security hole ever". But I am behind a LAN and I am not a pro in configuring Samba(I am even new to Linux!), whose documents are very detailed but totally unfriendly to newbies. You see, I don't wanna waste much time on reading documents and configuring. I just want two computers to talk to each other. I dont know why it is so hard. Linux has a long way to go indeed. It certainly can't beat Windows in desktop market. You know what, that's where most money comes from.
With this configuration I can access my linux box in network now. I did not try to mount windows to my linux box. That didn't worked before. (It is supposedly to be easier than the reverse, but it isn't). Suse seems to have a bug with that. But I dont care as of now. I use that box as a server. It has no monitor. I control my Suse from my XP box with SSH, FTP, and Webmin. That should take care of all things that I can do with a monitor on that linux box. So there is no need for me to mount a windows drive in linux.

Linux is for pros. I am excited to learn things behind it. But most ppl are not CS students like me. Most ppl don't want to know how things work. They want to concentrate on how to get things done fast and easy.
