can I just install RH 7.3 kernel to RH 7.2 or do I have to configure and compile the kernel myself?

Pilutak Icarus 08-13-2002, 09:38 AM Using the RPMs should work for that... ...probally be best to run the full upgrade to RH7.3, but if you have lots of custom packages that could mess things up (as it warns you) I would do the upgrade, but if all you need is the kernel, that should work also The Whizzard 08-13-2002, 09:47 AM I tried to do that when RH7.3 first came out. It didn't work as planned because the RH7.3 kernel wanted newer versions of a turd load of other RPMs. It's best to just do an upgrade. Pilutak 08-13-2002, 12:25 PM I wanted to be sure before I download the RH 7.3 kernel thanks pilutak The Whizzard 08-13-2002, 01:13 PM One thing I haven't tried would be to get the RH7.3 kernel.src.rpm(source RPM) and rpm --recompile --target i686 *.src.rpm. Replace i686 with your CPU type. If you have an Athlon/Duron use athlon. If you have a Pentium/AMD K6 use i586. Also replace *.src.rpm with the actual filename of the SRPM. You would then install the resulting RPM in the normal manner. It should be located it /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/arch/. arch being i686, i586, etc. I figure this should work. justlinux.com
