Whenever I try to install on my old P200 64MB box, the CD starts the install routine, but after only a few seconds, it comes up with: "Signal 17 received. Killing installation. It is safe to shut down your system now." (or something like that.) I tried to change the BIOS settings, but nothing gets me past Signal 17. Help!!!

What distro/version and does your hardware meet the minimum requirements of whatever distro/version you are attempting to install?

Sorry as we cannot help unless you provide enough information for us to assist you.

Sorry. I tried installing RH 5.3, 6.1, 6.2, Drake 6.0, 8.2 on a Pentium MMX200 on Asus P5A with 64MB EDO, Quantum Fireball, Diamond S220 4MB card with Verite chip. I've used most of these components in other Linux systems.

Everyone of those distros/versions had the Signal 17 Error when attempting to install?

I would definitely say it's hardware related.

Have a look through these Google for Linux search results for "Signal 17" (http://www.google.com/linux?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=%22Signal+17%22) and see if any of them pertain to your situation.

Try to install it in textmode again.
It may produce a more detail error message.

From my sig man pages, signal 17 means:

SIGCHLD 20,17,18 B Child stopped or terminated
