Hi, I have a desknote a928 laptop with thiz linux installed. Everything works 100% but the dial up. When I start the program it rings makes modem sounds and then sits there. Nothing works. I emailed cust service and they told me to change the COM port to 16 which made it sit there and do nothing without the ringing or modem sounds. How do I set this up right? ps the username and password and phone number are all correct

Is this a hardware modem or a winmodem?
For winmodems, you can try www.linmodems.org
You can also lookup your laptop at www.linux-laptop.net to see if it is listed and for possible suggestions for the modem.

i'mrunning the same book. although I didn't run with the installed thiz and went redhat 7.3.
I found the pdf files at http://desknote.net
to be very very helpful.
everything works great although I can't get Xv working with the generic vesa driver and the sis650 drivers are not in rh7.3

Another member posted http://www.sis.com/support/driver/linux.htm in a thread just down from this one.
I'm not sure if those drivers will work with the X version included with Redhat 7.3 or not.

It is an internal modem. As far as I know everything works 100% with the modem but the dial up just isn't connecting.

well I just tried the sis_drv.o for 7.2 on my decknote redhat 7.3 and the driver worked with problems.
after installing xvinfo was good and xine reported no errors till i started playing files with Xv,
it would freeze the entire system . making the driver unwise for my needs tomarrow i'll try the older version Or maybe try finding updated vesa drivers that suport Xv.
thanks MDwatts for that info now I have a site to watch for updates in drivers for this book.

Ok then. So it looks like my driver works, what do I do with the dial up? Is there anything I need to do to make it connect properly? COM ports? What is happening when it rings the right number makes sounds but doesn't connect?
