I'm quite new with linux and I've installed RedHat 7.3, finally when the RH7.3 installation is at the end, you're suppose to setup your monitors "hsync kHz" and the "vsync Hz". I looked in my manufacurers manual for the monitor and there it says:

Scanning Frecuency (under the "Electrical Specifications")

Horizontal 30-72KHz (Automatically)
Vertical 47-160Hz (Automatically)

I set those values and tried all the possible resolutions (at the end of the setup) with all the color quality bits, 256 colors, 16 bits, and 32 bits. I selected login/boot up, in TEXT mode.

Once I've done this and login to root, type 'startx' and run linux desktop(or whatever, heh) a monitor error occurs:

Screen: "OUT OF RANGE". <- That probably means that I've set a too high resolution or something similar.. when I lower the Res the screen goes blank, it goes into 'sleep mode'.

What could the problem be? Please help me.. Thanks..!

I have ATi Rage 128 as video card and a Fujitsu Siemens MCM 171E/C776 monitor.

Use Xconfigurator to configure for you. i.e: type "Xconfigurator"
You can spoil your monitor if you provide the wrong frequency range.
