I seem to recall hearing about a linux distribution which installed itself into a file under windows and is then started via an icon.
Any idea what distribution does that? I want to install linux and have a play but I don't want to add yet another partition to my system.

I think your looking for:
http://www.winlinux.net
if you just want to check out linux, I suggest you try:
Knoppix (http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html)
It's a complete linux distribution that you boot from a CD and it won't touch your harddrive.
Good luck!

Thanks for that. Unfortunately winlinux doesn't run under win 2k or xp, and dual booting into 98 first defeats the purpose...
KNOPPIX looks interesting. I may give that a go, but it isn't quite what I want coz I can't install Kylix on it.
Might have to go with a triple boot :-(

Mandrake I think still has a way of installing in a big windows file.
ZipSlack is slackware that runs on a FAT partition in a 100Mb file - it's designed to run off a zip disk (hence the name).
DemoLinux is another CD based distro.
