They promised a Linux client. Where is it? Now, they announce a new game, in development with MICROSOFT! Finish what you've started, BioWare! I *WILL* get my Linux client, and Windows will go away soon. Release the client, support it, and let me play in a SECURE OS.
Read my post on Windows in /dev/random for more ranting and raving.

according to www.tuxgames.com the linux client is still supposed to come out on aug. 8, in 2 days. I want my Linux client!
Thats an estimated release date. Its 2 days away, its either going to happen or it isn't.

Don't think so. Was reading the BioWare boards, and BioWare is off to GenCon, their programmers have just got back from vacation, so unless it was almost finished, and they're finishing it up, its not coming in two days.

yeah thats what i thought. I also thought i was wierd that the Mac release date was set after the linux date. I hear NWN is coming out for Mac late summer, early fall. My friend has a Mac G4 and he can't wait for the Mac release. I chose to hold out on the PC release and get it for linux. My way of supporting the Linux gaming community.
BTW-Do you know if the Linux client will be available in stores? You can't buy Linux game's in games store's. i only see them online. I haven't been to the bioware site in a couple of days, ill have to go there again and see whats going on.

Hopefully, you'll download a Loki-like installer, and use that.
In the worst case scenario, they release Red Hat RPMs and forget everyone else.

lol i have Red Hat, go RPMs!!!!!!!!!
didn't loki go out of buisness. Read at there site that they filed for chaper 9(liquitation). O as i read you said loki-like installer. Very well then. I hope for an installer or even better a full client.
Only time will tell

the loki installer is still used by id for all their linux games. Anyways the chances of linux bins coming soon are very close to nil, no ETA has ever been given by bioware (read the nwn forums). As for me, i'm going to protect by just warezing the game. If they ever release linux bins i'll happily pay, otherwise they lost my $40 (or whatever).
Also, almost definitly, it's gonna be where you use the windows CD and download linux binairies. But as always tuxgames will merge it all on 1 Cd for you.

If you read their FAQ, it will be an Installer and you'll need the Windows CD...at least it's something :p
I can get Linux software at a place near me called MicroCenter, that is where I got most of my Linux games (Decent3, HOMM3 and Quake3) for dirt cheap also...probally cause it was right after Loki locked their doors and they had a lot of stock with thier games... $5 each and picked up Quake3 this weekend for $2 (linux metal tin) I would of never bought Q3 otherwise...UT is my thing :D
I don't see myself getting NWN anytime soon, I don't care for the real-time combat in a RPG...if I only had to worry about 1 characture I can handle it, but Baulders Gate down right p*ssed me off with trying to run 6 charactures at once, I like the turn based combat system for this myself (ie Fallout series)

That MicroCenter place sound pretty cool. I have been looking all over for a store with linux games. My friends and I were at Best Buy the other day, and just out of curiosity i asked the woman in the games section if they sold any linux games. She looked at me all confused, and was like, yeah i have heard of that Linux thing. But they didn't sell any games. I didn't have my hopes up that high, its Best Buy after all.
An installer is ok i guess. I want a full linux client, no installer. O yeah and Dun'kalis its not 1 game with M$, its 2. :D

The installer will give the client, so I hope its not in an RPM. I am NOT going back to RPM dependency hell for ONE game.

ronald, in BG you were MEANT to constantly pause the game during combat. And NWN is only 1 controlable character. You can hire a henchman, but you can't control him/her, (s)he has his/her own a.i.
p.s. anyone know any gender nuetral words so someone doesn't have to say he/she, etc?

I think I was the one that didn't like that about BG :)

So I'm not the only one waiting for the client... :P ;)
Anyhow, yeah, they estimate November 16th... That's not so far away... I don't care, so long as it comes out.
I was playing it in Windows a bit, but I've since deleted my Windows partition (yay me!) so I am kinda anxious to play.
I say we all ask them for a native port of Baldur's Gate 2 or something...
I hope the installer is a Loki installer, because that will create a standard installer interface for all games... And Loki released it for free anyhow. I hope Loki ressurects someday... If that's possible.
BTW, if you didn't know, Daniel works at Epic, and Sam works at Blizzard. We should bug the **** out of these companies for native ports - UT 2003, anyone????

Heh, November for the Linux client of NWN...considering the Windows client was almost a year late, that will be a record for them :D
Unreal Tournament 2003! 'nuff said ;)
I can care less about an egotistical company like Blizzard, remember what happens to developers that get to big on their egos? Ever hear of John Romero? Daikatana anyone? :D
I found this to be very amusing (http://www.matthewmiller.net/html/humor/Diakatana.html) :)

All Hail John Carmack. You know he is a God of gaming. Admit it.
And doesn't he do all of his core OpenGL development on Linux and Mac machines? He should release the Linux/Mac versions in the same box, and force the Windows users to download their installer. That'll show them!

That would be cool.
Remember when the Quake 3 test came out on Mac OS first... now that was crazy... I was still using Windows at the time.
Now I'm a recent Linux convert... here's to gaming on Linux - first and forever!
