I would like to run halflife in linux. I know you can run a windows emulator but i dont wont to do that, all i want to do is just run halflife under linux itself.
If you could give me so help or mybe some link to sites that could help me out then that would be great.

I'm not a gamer, but since it isn't listed in native ports, I would presume it runs in Windows and would need wine/winex.
Did you google?

I do u google but i find it hard to find relevant topics. The reason i dont want to use wine/winx is because i can seem to work oit how to configure it so it emulates.

Check out the HOWTOs and FAQs at www.winehq.org and www.transgaming.com
I know winehq has sample configs and loads on 'getting it to work'
If you are looking to get half-life working, grab the CVS of WineX from transgaming. I use the binaries and it runs great, they have even taken care of most lag from the wineserver so it is almost identical to playing in Windows (they still didn't fix the secure server stuff in the binaries though :()

Strictly speaking, Wine(X) does not _emulate_, rather it is a Linux version of the Windows APIs - it doesn't convert/emulate the commands to make them into Linux commands, hence the reason why Windows games run so well in Linux on similar hardware.

OK. RIGHT NOW YOU CANNOT RUN HL/CS IN LINUX BY ITSELF.
There is NO PORT OF CS TO LINUX... yet
They(valve) are talking about making a port... but I guess they're getting busy with CS 1.6 and CSZ(condition zero). So dont hold your breath.
I just recently got CS to work in linux through wineX. But you cannot play it really, because every server that's running HLguard will kick you because it thinks wineX is a hack! HA!... sooo... yeah... don't delete your windows partition just yet, because thats about all its good for(for me anyways): playin games.
Other than that -=::LINUX PWNS::=-

You can play CS online...just need to find a non-secure server (the in-game server browser will show these with the yellow "!")
Too bad there are not many and I've managed to make a small list of the ones I can play on (about 5 or so) but at least it's something...
I'm suprised nobody has gotten with Valve to port HL/CS...the source is available to moders that ask for it, I wonder if they are turning down those that want to port it?
maybe I'll send them an e-mail tonight about it...I've been wondering this for a while

somehow i doubt ALL the source is available. Think of all the cheats that could be made with the source was readily downloadable (and cliffe and gooseman ignore user made patches). So I'm sure you have to 1) have a 1/2 working mod already, and 2) they will only give out certain sections of the code.

Thats kind of like saying "Apache is an insecure web server because the source is freely available"...very MS thinking.
Besides, Half-Life is about 20-30% Quake2 which is freely available...

mahdi, if you kept reading my post:
(and cliffe and gooseman ignore user made patches)
opensource is worse than closed source if people can't contribute back. (well, worse for the program, it's always nice to see a proggies source)

Actually, you can run the server natively, but there is no client.

they are? where did you hear/read that?

I tried configuring wine (/home/tbasten/.wine/config) and it didn't work. I looked at the help files and How-To's online and followed what they said to do but nothing work. Could someone either give me sample of your config file or tell me where i can find some samples.
