I have a Drake 8.2 box running Samba 2.2.3a PDC to a small LAN of XP machines. What I've noticed is that after around 5 minutes or so, the permissions I've set for the public folder in the /home directory (770) would revert back to the default settings (744).

To add some background: I have security set to lowest (I'm using a Freesco router on WAN side), and I've also given group ownership as well as set corresponding create & directory masks in smb.conf for the public share.

After searching through this forum, I discovered that this is possibly due to the way Drake 8.2 handles the /home directory.

My temporary solution was to move the public share out of the /home directory and into /var. All is working just perfectly now.

My question is two-fold:

1.) Can any other Drake 8.2 users confirm this "disappearing permissions" phenomenon in /home?

2.) If it is indeed due in part to the way Drake 8.2 was designed, is there a way to undo it? I would much rather keep Samba shares in /home.

Thanks! ;)
