My SDSL provider has given me two static IP addresses. I've been using one for my wife's pc and one for mine - we've each been running our own firewall software. I finally got my hands on a third box and I'm almost through configuring it as a central firewall/router. I was going to use one of the two IP addresses as the main outgoing IP... what can I do with the other one?

Maybe this is stupid but can both of these connection be used in tandem? maybe to speed the connection up? I have an extra NIC that I can put into my firewall box. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Thanks,
cotfessi

Don't know about combining two nics, but you may want to use the other ip to host web and email?

Since your Ethernet connection is faster than your SDSL connection, you wouldn't speed things up by using 2 NICs to attach to your SDSL connection(unless it's faster than 100Mb/s).

I'm confused by your post? I only have SDSL(540k). I have 2 static IP address under the same account. I was wondering if I can put two NICs in the same machine, connect one to each of the static IPs and somehow harness the speed of both of them together...

I vaguely remember reading somewhere a few years ago about using multiple phone modems to speed up a dialup connection.

No speed gain to be had, both ip's use the same modem..
Do you have to login (pppoe?) to get your ip??
If they are static you could just use ip-alias to bring up the second ip, could be useful for other things...
