Hello,
is it possible to set up Samba to read another password database?

I'm currently running RedHat server 7.0 (Samba, NIS, NFS, DNS) with a variety of clients: RedHat 7.0 to 7.3, Windows 2000, Windows XP.

Right now I had to write my own script to prompt the users to change their password twice (once for NIS, once for SMB). I was wondering if I could make it such that they read the same database (or same authentication module), in order to simplify this.

I have tried the password change option in Samba; it doesn't work for NIS, since remote password changes in yppasswd require the root password (and changing the password from the Windows comes through as a remote procedure, rather than like the user changing their own yppasswd from a shell).

thanks in advace,
ac
