I'm looking at a barebones kit on ebay that has integrated sound. It says:
" Integrated S3 ProSavage8 8x AGP Graphic Engine Base on S3 ProSavage 8 Architecture"
Does anyone know if this is linux-compatible or if it can be disabled and a sound card installed?
Thanks,
SW

Umm... The Savage AGP chipset sounds like video...
Maybe you want to check somewhere else on that site to really check out the actual specs on the sound card.
On a side note, most mobos with onboard sound can have the sound disabled.

I'm tired and confused. (It has onboard sound too but that can be disabled) I meant is this video "engine" linux compatible, or can it be disabled and a video card installed?
Thanks,

I'm not sure if it is Linux compatible or not. If it helps, I have an S3 Savage4 AGP card, and it works under X 4.x.
Most likely it can be disabled. If it can't completely (I've seen that on certain mobos) be disabled, you still should be able to use another video card if you want.
