I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and am disappointed with it in Linux. I cannot use most of its features and I have to mess with the mixer because it seems to mute itself a lot.

I have a few open PCI slots so I was thinking of buying a cheap new card for Linux. Any suggestions?

I have heard good things about the SB Live.

I am mainly looking for stable drivers and I do not need any special features, but if I can control most of the inputs/outputs with the mixer and they stay the way I want them I will be happy.

Thanks

I use a Soundblaster PCI 128 and have had no problems with it whatsoever on any distro I have used. It uses the es1371 kernel module, so if your distro doesn't detect it automatically, modprobe es1371 is usually enough to get it working.

They're dirt cheap too.

I also had the PCI-128 and it was always detected and configured whenever I installed Linux.

The SB Live is probably the most popular and is well supported in Linux.

Just ensure you have PnP OS disabled in the bios.

Does the PCI 128 work well in full duplex?

and/or the Live for that matter.

I would recommend Either the SBlive or the Audigy.

the live has been supported in Linux for a while now, and Stable Audigy drivers were released not long ago, the live is about $25 on www.pricewatch.com and the audigy is around $50, im using the audigy myself
