I've been planning on installing Linux tomorrow (my first time having a non-Windows OS in the house) but just ran across something that could be a problem. No where do I see that the ATI Radeon 7200 is supported by either Mandrake or RedHat (I can't decide which one I want to install). I really need to start out with a GUI instead of just the command line as I know how to do nothing in Linux. For about the next month or so I'll just be playing around with it, and then we are getting our network set up so I'll be running game servers off of it and stuff. So if anyone knows whether or not I can get the Radeon 7200 to work with RedHat or Mandrake, please let me know so I won't be lost at the hands of the command prompt :).

**PERSONAL EXPERIENCE**

I had better luck with Mandy than RH. Both are good distros though.

It will work with either one, just fine. If they don't autodetect what card you're using, just choose the ati drivers...will work fine then. As long as whatever distro you choose has XFree86 v4.2, it will work.

Phew, thanks --- I assume the latest versions of both those distros (RH 7.3 and Mandrake 8.2[??]) have that XFree86 v4.2, right?

I'm running Red Hat 7.3 on an Intel Motherboard with a Radeon 7200. Red Hat automatically detected it and it works great. It even supports 3D acceleration and all that good stuff. No problems.
