Linux, JDBC, Oracle aso.

I'm working on some Linux-boxes with php-scripts, and now I've got to get some data from an Oracle db (actually also from a M$-SQL-db), and I don't know how. I don't do Java (sorry!), but I've heard about the JDBC API.

How good at Java do you have to be to use it, and are there any other (and easier) way?? :confused:
