I installed Redhat 7.2 as a server installation w/ all necessary
components and servers ranging from Apache - Samba - mySQL -etc. I
did not configure or tweak any of the apache configs other than
setting it up to listen on port :81 not default :80.

The 1st machine tested on::
AMD 200 MHz 160MB RAM 8GB HD RMP?

The 2nd Machine tested on::
Pentium II 266 MHz 190MD RAM same drive

NETWORK (LAN ONLY)
One 8 Port Linksys Router. Port 81 forwarding to Linux Server

I'm having some serious lag issues (7-10 seconds per page) getting my page to load on a network. Linux is running without the GUI on a 100MB LAN. Should I seriously consider upgrading my machine? Or is there something I'm missing. This just seems to be seriously off to me.

Those systems have more than enough power for a basic web server. My main web server was a 486 for several months.

Does the lag exist if you connect to the localhost? Any other services running slow?

Might want to get out tcpdump and watch for port 81 traffic.

*ummm*

That 8port linksys unit ... collision counts??
What are you using for name resolution on the network.... if you're having DNS issues that will slow you *right* down.
