FluxBOX and themes
I have the themes un archived, and the styles folder made and the backgrounds flder made. take the background from the archive and move it to "~/.fluxbox/background/" and then the styles "~/.fluxbox/styles/". But when I switch the theem i do not get a background image. I think it may have something to do with xv, but im not sure. I dont have it instaled and cant find a new or recent version, the only version I can find goes to RH5.1 or something and im running RH 7.3. I was wondering if any one had gotten the image files to work on the theemes they installed there selves.
Also what is the dock app from WindowMaker?
Thanks

You might want try an add the path to where your new styles are located in. You would do this by editing your .fluxboxrc file. If there is one. Make sure you have the whole path to your users style directory. Not something like ~/.flubox/styles but rather /home/username/.fluxbox/styles . See if that works.

there is not a .fluxboxrc file in the .fluxbox directory.
Try checking your home directory, not your .fluxbox directory :p

nop the only files I have that even start with f are .fluxbox and .first_start_kde, have any other ides, I would like to get the image backgrounds working.
Also the default theme, it has a redhat picture for the image it shows up. where are the default themes located so i can take a look at how they made the image in the style.
Thanks

I was almost sure fluxbox made and rc file...Oh well. If I remember correctly the defaults should be located in /usr/local/share/fluxbox or maybe /usr/share/fluxbox . Someone else correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not exactly a fluxbox user.:p But I'm guessing the defaults are pretty much the same as blackbox. Anyways try checking there.

fluxbox default directories I have are located in:
/opt/fluxbox/share/fluxbox/
I'm having the same problem with backgrounds. I downloaded a cool blue-ish theme from the fluxbox web site. It comes with a nice background, but all I get is the gray-n-white default background. I tried using the rootCommand line from another style to get at least a blue-ish background, but it keeps going back to the gray-n-white background. I'm going to move fluxbox styles out of the default directory and into ~/.fluxbox/styles to see what happens.

Moving the styles from the default directory and into ~/.fluxbox did the trick. Also, I had to use:
rootCommand: Esetroot ~/.fluxbox/background/backgroundname.jpg
in the theme. For some reason 'bsetroot' was not doing its job.
Here's a shot:

while you are on the topic, bsetbg is a good program to use to set your backgrounds.
It is actually just a front-end to the other image programs (Esetroot, xv, etc). It creates a .bsetbg file in your ~/.fluxbox directory, and allows you to choose what program is called with bsetbg, and with what options. This makes it easier , since alot of the themes (newer ones at least) are made using bsetbg.
