Apache config issue

Hi,

Im trying to set up a development enviroonment on windows xp(!! I have no choice) - and when i go to test apache in IE 6 (typing http://local host) it keeps asking me to download the file?

Can someone tell me what the hell is going on as im wasting hours of time and not getting anywhere.

What exactly have you put under your server's root directory as an index page? Is it a PHP script (.php)?

Its a fresh install - im going to install php but havent done just yet. Basicall all of the files in htdoc are the ones that are put there in the apache install.

Any other ideas?
