Adding to Program menu in Gnome

How would I go about adding a program to the Program sub menu in Gnome? I swear I did look in the Help, but didn't see it addressed.

If you mean, why can't you edit the Programs menu as a normal user - you need to login as root because the Programs menu is stored in /usr/share/gnome/apps/ (or /opt/... depending on your distro). As a normal user, you can only edit the Favourites menu.
