That is definately not normal.

More info is needed .. what hardware are you trying to install on ... CPU/RAM/Video card chipset etc ?

Does this hardware function correctly with other operating systems ?

Have you got the right install CD's .. (ie) if you have an intel PC are they for it ? You can dload/get hold of distros for different hardware as well.

Where did you get the cd's ?

Post some more info and you will get help here.

Have you tried the -nofb mode (more info on the welcome screen)? This helped me solve a problem with a really old video card.

The distro version you want for Red Hat is i386. For Mandrake it's i586. I had a downloaded copy of Mandrake 8.0 that wouldn't install. I have never checked the "mid5sums". Maybe there were errors on my download.

If you have a downloaded copy of the distro, you might want to check the integrity of the copy against the "mid 5 sums". I'm sure you've set the bios to enable booting from the cdrom first.
A few months ago my solution when Man 8.0 wouldn't install was to switch to a copy of RedHat 7.2.
I got Mandrake 8.2 installed easily, until it rebooted and I got stuck in command line with error msgs every time I tried "startx". I'm going to just do a reinstall with more info on my monitor and video card.

The cd is fine... and after downloading Mandrake 8.2 and trying to install it... it does the exact same thing after pressing enter... damnit...

Try using the cd's you created on another system ...may save you some headache if the cd's turn out to be duds.

Mandrake 8.2 with a AMD K-6... Sis Chipset with built in Sis Video..same problemo! It goes through all the checks.. Login..then... BLANK-O screen! I dont think it's hardware..because you wouldnt be able to see the installation graphics and stuff.. but it's got me stumped.. I've reinstalled it over and over. It's on my "D" drive (a secondary hard drive 27Gig).....what gives? :-( David

try linking this post to General Linux Questions.

More people seem to peruse the linuxnewbie forums. These linuxplanet forums appear useful , but if no-one is reading them....... post the link , I am sure you will get a better response.
