I have WindowMaker and FVWM2, I use both frequently because I hate waiting for KDE/Gnome. My pc is slow, 96mb ram, p200. My experience with LInux has been a mixed bag but I refuse to go back to M$.

Does anyone have any idea how to customize FVWM2 ? I am addicted to gui's and always dread command line. I have had so much trouble in the past switching back and forth between window managers etc., because I messed with *.xinit file and had terrible luck.

Well now I just deal with the logon screen for suse (run level 5?) and it's much easier for me.

I'm a real newbie but loving the speed of windowmaker and fvwm2, any suggestions on other window managers ? I installed fluxbox but don't know how to get it running ? any suggestions?

Mike

 According to the documentation that comes with it, create .xinitrc and put what you want to launch in that.

Here is mine:
# Fancy Piper's Gentoo Linux
# My .xinitrc configuration file

exec wmix -w &
exec gkrellm -w &
exec fluxbox

You might want to visit the fluxbox site and read how to make your menues, etc. If you installed it, run fluxconf the first time you run fluxbox and it will install some basic menues and themes.

Customizing fvwm2? Why sure!

Check out this screenie (http://www.nord-com.net/goedeke/fvwm/). If you like what you see grab the config files, read the man pages and start modifying the configuration to your likings.

If you get stuck with a problem I'll see what I can do. Just drop me an email .

cheers, demian

edit:

You could also start with installing fvwm-themes (http://fvwm-themes.sourceforge.net/) although I must say that a lot of the default themes are just plain ugly and unfunctional but they do give you an idea of what's possible with this amazing window manager.
