Security Software

I had a really quick question with respect to Linux Security Software and maybe even third party software in general. Is it a good idea to download security software or third party software to the /usr/src directory. I have a CD full of security software that I want to put on my Linux box ,but I want to make sure I untar it in the right directory. Any info would be valuable.:confused:
