Hi,

I installed rh73 a few weeks ago and I set gnome to be the default gui, which came with sawfish as the window manager.

How do I go about experimenting with other window managers? IE, how do I start x with a window manager without gnome/sawfish. I can find the executable in /usr/X11R6/bin/fvwm2, but I don't know enough about x to change the window manger/gui.

Thanks

Jeff

The simplest way is to login to a console, and then edit your ~/.xinitrc file. If you don't have one, then there should be some copies kicking about in /etc/X11/ - just copy across to your home directory.

THEN.....

Edit the file, and at the bottom where it executes the window manager, delete all the stuff from the other wm, and enter FVWM instead.

actually, i found an item on redhat's site that said to:
xinit <window-manager-path><window-manager-executable>
