Hello
I have noticed that there are ocassions when I am logging out of an X-windows session (Gnome) as user that my system hangs. The mouse still works, but I cannot open any programs, nor my terminal and the system simply hangs in a state of psuedo-suspended animation. Because it does not clear itself, I have to reboot from the box (which I really am loathe to do!!), but I can't figure out any other way of getting out of that system hiatus. It only happens periodically, and I can't say that I've noticed any particular pattern associated with this. But, I'm concerned because I really don't want to have hard reboot my system to avoid scrambling the files and directories. I'm using RH7.2. Any thoughts? Cheers in (hopeful!!:)) anticipation.

CTRL & ALT + backspace

i noticed the same thing with Gnome1.4 sometimes it hesitates for a monent when clicking the logout button, so i just use the above key combo and it kills X safely and quickly...

Will that key combo work even when the system seems frozen up as I described? I tried the ctrl+alt+del combo, but that didn't work, but never thought of the ctrl+alt+bkspace.
Next time it happens I'll give that a try. Thanks.
