I'm using RH7.3 at the moment, and installed Blackbox. I noticed that the menus don't "move" over from KDE, I know why ... window manager vs desktop enviroment ... but I was wondering if anyone knew a way to transfer the menus over? I would hate to have to code the menus in .... lots of time there ;)
Thank you in advance.
Unless RH has similar menus created for each WM, you're going to have to do it yourself. BB is one of the more lightweight WM's, so expect to have to do a little tweaking on your own to make it work just the way you want. Luckily the BB menu style is incredibly easy to work with, so it's not too much trouble.
Blackbox's menu in Redhat is located in /usr/share/Blackbox it is Global so what you do will affect all users of Blackbox, but it is easy to edit (as root) and there are some instructions in the menu itself, also switchdesk in Redhat does not play friendly with accepting other WMs that are not included with the distro, what i did was just change Xclients-default in my /home/username* directory to point to /usr/bin/blackbox

I created a .xinitrc file and BB loaded perfectly. There are some scripts I've found that are supposed to take the menus from both KDE and Gnome and parse them into the BB menu. I haven't tried them yet. but will probably give them a go.
Thx!!

If you go to the Blackbox homepage, I think there's a link there to a menu editor that you can use. In any case, editing the menu file itself isn't difficult. It's well commented and you should be able to figure out on your own how it works in just a few minutes.
Or do a search for genmenu (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=genmenu) on Google and use that. What it does is search the dirs in your path for a list of common apps and generates a blackbox menu, along with other WMs if you want it to.

I found a little program "menushki" that will convert a number of different menus. (http://menushki.sourceforge.net/) I have not tried KDE to Blackbox, but I have tried GNOME to Blackbox and visa-versa. It also can do WindowMaker, KDE, IceWM, and Enlightenment.
NOTE: I found that it did not work for me while in X, I had to do it while still in the console

You could always run the gnome panel in blackbox too.
