Hello one and all,

I am trying to do a net install of RedHat 7.3 but am having trouble having the installer locate the ftp site.

I am trying to download from Tucows:

ftp.linux.tucows.com/pub/ISO/RedHat/7.3/valhalla-i386-disc-1.iso

is the exact location.

As the RH documentation states:

"Enter the name or IP address of the FTP site you are installing from, and the name of the directory containing the RedHat installation files for your architecture."
http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-7.3-Manual/install-guide/s1-x86-begininstall-ftp.html

Which in this case would be:

ftp.linux.tucows.com
/pub/ISO/RedHat/7.3

Correct?
What is up?
How can I be sure that I have net access?

Thanks,

Brad

The problem is that the net install doesn't use the ISO image, it uses the actual rpms available from a site, and it seems that tucows only has the ISO available. You'll have to use a different ftp site and enter the directory to the RPMS directory itself, something such as

ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/redhat-7.3-en/os/i386/

When doing a FTP install with RedHat, you don't use the ISO images on the server. On the server, the contents of the ISO images are layed out. The server you are using only has the ISO images, so you'll need to use a diferent server.

You can use the below server and path but you may want to look around to see if there is a faster and/or closer one to you.

ftp.tux.org

/distributions/redhat/releases/redhat-7.3/en/os/i386/

Thanks,

I will try that.

I just assumed that since the ISOs are used elsewhere that they would be used for ftp.

.iso files are images of the CDRom disks used for burning copies of the installation disks. If you download all 3 .iso image files a cd burning app will recognize them as images and you can create the install cd's. Provided you have an available cd burner.
