I know you "preen" threads.
So why not let users post threads for preening that are unavailable anyways?

Here's one: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=020041
...with the infamous " No member profile found for member number: 00002166" reply.

DAMN! The loss of valuable knowledge sucks...but at this rate we'll be caught in an endless loop of repeating stuff, or linking to "unstabe' threads that go *poof*!

i'm not sure that it really works that way
the "prune" thing in the control panel lets you choose a date and then lists all the threads older than that, then if you have a spare 7-8 hours, you can read through every one and "uncheck" those you don't want "pruned", then you click the button to wipe out the rest, the ones you left selected, so i am not sure there is an easy way to go find those threads you linked

besides, the only reason those threads come up with that error is because of corrupted user accounts, i think the "correct" way to fix that error would be to fix/delete the "screwed up" user accounts that are linked in those threads, vice doing something to the thread itself, and since HAL's don't have any access to user accounts we can't do that, so i dunno, guess it will stay the same ole same ole, or somebody could email housen i guess, i suppose he might have time to go through the user account database, maybe

That's what I do :)

Anyway, you actually CAN prune by user number, I do believe. I will do it when I get back next week.

no worky , worky :(
same error, this problem has to be fixed backdoor by the internet.com guys, guess it makes sense cause the control panel/pruner is just accessing the database the same way the ubb is, so those threads can't be chopped/pruned by the control panel because the user is invalid/deleted, whatever

An understandable observation.
The truth that day was that I was doing a forum search and 3 out of every 4 results was returning exactly that!
I got very angry and thought the problem would go away if they were just deleted.
So I started searching...
