Im a new Linux user Ive just installed Mandrake ver 7.0. As a Windows user but not a technical one I had the usual firewall. Used multiproxy ,sockscap, used scorch to delete files and win swap file, cookies etc. Id like to know the equivelents in Linux. Id like to start with the firewall preferably with graphics interface. Any suggestions welcome and if anyone could point me in the right direction for other equiv packages.
Thanks
I use ipchains, it is a very nice, fairly to use, and versatile firewall. I would recommend this software highly. Although it is not graphical at its core, I'm sure you could find some graphical frontends for it at www.freshmeat.net. (http://www.freshmeat.net.) Hope this helps.

pmfirewall is very simple to use and will setup a descent basic firewall that you can then work with from there.

Here is a link to the firewall used in Bastille-Linux. Supposed to work with Ipchains and Iptables.

Yep...pmfirewall. Not graphical, but you just run an interactive script...answering the questions about how you connect, what you want to leave open, blah, blah, blah and you have a firewall configured.
Not the be all and and end all...but as you said, you are looking for something simple...I second pmfirewall.

gShield at http://muse.linuxmafia.org I believe you can download a GUI front end for it as well.
