Apache-SSL and Mod_Auth question?

I'm running apache with ssl. What I'm curious about is I'm using the "mod_auth" module for password authintacation to a particular directory. All the authorization takes place through the Apach-SSL server. Does this also mean that my "User Name" and "Password" are also Encrypted as they traverse the Internet?
