Hi all,

I need help with a home security project that my uncle and I are working on. We want to set up a web page that will provide a live feed from cameras set up at their house to my uncle when he is away from home. We have already made a thing where when the house alarm goes off, it rings his mobile with a prerecorded message, and we want to go a step further.

I want to know if we can set up a linux web server to provide the page and the feed, which will be from a Flyvideo card on the computer. I would like to know what distro to use, what type of machine to be the server, how to set up Apache and the live feed and also if you need to pay for a domain name or just run it from the server. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks all! :D

im still a bit of a newbie myself so i cant give you much technical information...
but in my opinion it sounds perfectly feasible.
what i think would be a good idea to do is to set up apache, and password protect it (there is an NHF on this site for that) so that only you guys can get access to the webpage to view it. and also, if you are going to be the only ones viewing or have any knowledget that it even exisits, there is no reason to spend money on a domain name, you just access it by typing the IP int he address bar....this MAY create security risks tho...im not sure. that would be a question that would need to be answered by someone with much more advanced knowledge of linux...but i hope my little bit helped...
