...pretty much what the title says...

I can play Starcraft quite fine in single player, but when I try mulitplayer over a network, (IPX connection) it tells me 'Unable to initialize network provider'. And will not let me go any further...

All the how-to's I can find on this just shows how to connect to a game, not get past the Multiplayer menu, s how

Do you have IPX support in your kernel, either compiled in or as a module?

Wine will need that if Starcraft is requesting an IPX connection.

Well, I've configured it, I think. I have set stuff like the frame type (802.3) so that I think means that yes, it is complied into my kernel. I've just had no way of testing it, until now...

Might it be trying to authenticate with whoever the main servers are? Like WON does for Half-Life or Counterstrike? I believe there used to be issues with Wine not working with the encryption algorithms the main servers used. I know the WineX RPM from Transgaming fixes the problem, but it uses non-open code, so if you grab the CVS snapshot (instead of paying $5/month to subscribe), you don't get the encryption stuff  .

FFS... I dont wanna spend money, even if it is only $5. Here in Australia thats more like $13...

So there is no solution for Wine (not WineX, the codeweavers version) at all. Surely there is someone out there who has got Multiplayer Starcraft working in Wine? Surely... :(

WineX is just Wine + DirectX 7 code, your config should be fine.

PS: consider subscribing, if they get enough, they will resync the code with the wine main tree. and if you subscribe you get to vote on what they port/work on next.

pretty cool business model, if you ask me.
