I guess I'll need to tackle WINE to play HalfLife, though, huh? ScRapZ_1 11-27-2001, 08:51 AM Hmmm... I've heard several stories of VMware, and I'm interested (its taken me this long, typical). Where abouts can I get it? Is i something released under GPL or is there a license fee. (Which I doubt, since all Linux goodness is free :D) TTFN, ScRapZ_1 :p urinal cake 11-27-2001, 05:01 PM Big license fee for any version. Version 3.0 is needed for the 2.4 kernel. Version 2 doesn't like the 2.4 kernel but there's a patch that works quite well. That what I've installed. I'm installing Win2k in a window as I type this LOL! Just wait til I do Windows update from within Mdk8.1! ScRapZ_1 11-28-2001, 07:31 AM Oh... ... ... ... ...I dont like how you started off saying 'Big license fee' How big? But I'm sure it'll be worth it. vmware.com? I'll try it... TTFN, ScRapZ_1 :p ScRapZ_1 11-28-2001, 07:42 AM /faints... /regains consciousness... My god. $299 for downloaded version and $329 for packaged version. And thats in US$... *does quick maths* Thats AU$575 and AU$632. Thats more expensive than BUYING the MS operating system itself. Phew. Methinks this is a project for much later down the track. *sigh* Oh well... TTFN, ScRapZ_1 :p gcb 11-28-2001, 01:50 PM woah now...you can get vmware express for linux, which will run one virtual machine with either win95 or win98 installed...it only costs us$50...i just ordered a copy from linuxcentral.com check this http://www.vmware.com/products/desktop/exp_features.html ph34r 11-29-2001, 04:38 PM If all you wanted was GameSpy, you should just use XQF - works great. ScRapZ_1 11-30-2001, 06:39 AM Wow... this is great. ...I decided to go the '30 day trial' license and I've got it running stright up. I'm using it now, infact. Couple of glitches here and there, but what do you expect? One big one I've noticed though, and it's starting to irratate me, is that the sound is rather choppy. And every now and then, it 'pops' a couple of times when a new sound is played. Any ideas? Anyway, alot of work went into this program, I understand why its so expensive now. Its incredible, really :D TTFN, ScRapZ_1 :p ScRapZ_1 11-30-2001, 08:42 AM Ok, I've fixed the choppy sound, but I'm still getting that 'popping' noise. Very irratating. Any ideas? But I just found out that Creative actually support Linux. I was unaware of this. So I'll try it... TTFN, ScRapZ_1 :p justlinux.com
