playstation2 or XBOX?

i can't decide which to get. XBOX has better hardware, but PS2 has better games. I also heard something about linux and PS2 coming together in the future...

Hardware doesn't mean anything. Get the ones with games you want to play.

Just another note about that... PS2 not only has better games, but much MORE games.. Especially when you consider that you can use PS1 games in the PS2 machine. AND the DVD player is standard. Not optional.

It should be a lot easier to port linux to the xbox than the PS2, since the xbox is pretty much a glorified PC. And it has a hard drive. It's only a matter of time...

My personal recommendation would be a Gamecube, but really, get the one with the games you like. Maybe rent the systems, and a few games for each, and then make up your mind.

I'm going with the X-BOX hands down. The X-Box kills everything out there right now! They already have some cool games and there are more to come! I have a P2 and I'm really not all that impressed.

If you want a "green screen of death" every time you play a video game, then sure go straight for Uncle Billy's X-Box. Ive got a PS2 and it is sweeeeet! It has all of the coolest games. Halo really isnt as revolutionary as they touted it to be anyway. It's just another shooter. I'll take Q3 or UT over it. Maybe Im just a cranky old man (in my early 20's), but I say supporting the X-Box is just putting money in Gate's pocket... and he has more than enough to piss me off already. Go to your local mall and talk to anyone at a video game shop. Ask them how much commission they get for each X-Box. Their pockets are lined with Billy's money. This is just one more way Bill Gates has to be #1 at everything. What an egomaniac!

actually, uncle billy loses around $100 everytime someone buys an Xbox, all consoles are sold at lost, the games are what bring in the money. So to really screw microsoft over, buy an xbox and install linux on it :D. I havn't played Halo, but Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2001-11-28&res=l) have someything to say about it.

The XBOX isn't even pretty much a glorified PC.

It's a CHEAP as hell PC running a hacked NT kernel.

Pretty soon Sony will release a Linux kit that includes a mouse, kbd, 40G HD, 10/100 ethernet adapter and a full blown Linux Distro (screenshots I've seen show the Gimp, etc)
