For while now I've been playing Strike Force on my 100% Debian box, I thought it would be cool to start a Linux only clan. We now have around 6 members, and now we also have a website for everybody to visit.
www.clanluc.org (http://www.clanluc.org)

If you don't know what Strike Force is here's a quick run down. Basically think of SF as a cooler Counter Strike running on the Unreal Tournament engine. The mod it self is free (as beer, not speech) but it requires you to have a UT installation updated to 4.36.

We happily accept members, only requirement is that you play Strike Force from Linux. Soo please sign up by sending me a mail @ Lovechild@mailme.dk

Well I was considering starting to play Strike Force, but then I saw your post in the Counterstrike / HL / OpFor thread, and I realized that I don't want to be influenced in my gaming by someone that thinks CS is, and I quote, "gay".

Sorry, maybe next time.

Frankly the last beta I playing of CS was 7 some think or another.. I heard it has Voice over IP now, which sounds neat.. I just think CS is hyped, and the servers are filled with cheaters. Plus I have to emulate to play CS, where as SF runs natively..

SF has some neat features.. wobbling scopes, a heartbeat monitor..

But feel free not to join up, just at least try out the game as post your own opinion.

I just figured that some people would find info about the first (that I've ever heard about) Linux only clan..

I have an idea, why don't do you start a CS department of LUC, no hard feeling ?

- edit -

I found the other thread and edited out the word gay.. I don't want to offend anyone.

Nah,it wasn't that I was offended that you used "gay", it was just that you used the word to modify my current favorite game.

I played in every version from beta 6.5 to release 1.3. Yes, there are some cheaters, but that's because Valve did some screwy things with their OpenGL drivers ( ) that lets people hack them into showing your character on their side of the wall.

But like I said in that other thread, I primarily play on the LAN, and there are a LOT fewer cheaters on the LAN than the Internet. Some exist, but they get banned from servers rather quickly. So anyway, I think I will try SF out after all (well.... if I ever get LFS installed, that's my current project as of an hour ago). Where is there a list of mirrors? I was looking on strikeforcecentral.com (I think that was it....?), and the only Linux download they had denied me access when I tried to download it. Do you have a good mirror that has the current Linux mod?

Thanks, and I may sign up anyway now, depending on how the game feels.

Here's a list of mirrors:
http://193.45.143.34:81/83533_sf_160_linux.bin
http://filebrowser.ngi.it/FTP.asp?Nome=StrikeForce_Linux

http://www.planet-multiplayer.de/index.php?type=download&id=71
http://games.speakeasy.net/data/files/ra3/ra315cl_linuxmac.zip

(mirror list is old, from when 1.60 came out.. if they don't work I'll put the file on the website..)

Although I too am highly offended by the use of the word gay in that way, I'll still join the clan...

Bah, having Strike Force issues:

Some assistance would be nifty...

Apparently the default StrikeForce.ini file doesn't reference the correct paths to load the maps, etc. from....

I had to change the ../SF_Maps/xxxxx line to /usr/local/games/sf/SF_Maps/xxxxx to get it to work, along with all the other SF_xxxx lines.

I changed the normal Maps, Textures, etc. lines to /usr/local/games/ut/Maps, Textures, etc. The lines are in ~/.loki/ut/System/StrikeForce.ini.

Also, for some reason, it wouldn't boot up in a 1280x1024 mode... strangely enough, though, it worked fine once the game had booted once.

Now the only question I have is why aren't there any textures in the game? Now I know, there are patterns mapped onto polygons, but nothing looks like it has a texture -- there isn't the detail for that. Is it just too new? Or is it because it uses the UT engine?

Oh, and I do also get a segfault when I exit, but that doesn't bother me too much, because I'm quitting anyway.

Thank you man, I got it working. So what server should I hop onto?

Remember to change AllowDownloads=False to True since it's the only way to install things like CSHP and BSBVote correctly.. I tried doing this by hand, and I failed after hours of trying.. since the precompiled binaries are Windows specific.. Aloowing download will also install maps on demand (if server allows soo). Do all this in StrikeForce.ini.

Drop into a low player rate with a good ping to start with.. other wise drop into a server with a [LUC] member on it already.. we are nice ppl.

And finally, welcome to the clan... Mail me to be officially added to the database and remember to change your nick to [LUC]*nick

Have fun!

Super Bakemono:

Just as a warning, if you install in the default /usr/local/games/sf directory, the in-game inventory stations won't work (at least, they didn't for me until I installed in /usr/local/games/ut as per the install instructions in the README file). This also resolved the problem with the paths in ~/.loki/ut/System/StrikeForce.ini.

Install it in ut instead of sf is my recommendation. The only problem then is that it won't uninstall gracefully for an upgrade, but the installation instructions have a (hopefully working) workaround.

The inventory system worked fine for me...
So you guys don't have a server you play on regularly. No clan server?! Ack!

We will in about 3 days.. when I get to kicking [LUC]*Zeltren in the nuts...

We are still looking for a solution to the cheater problem.. closest seems to be CSHP4r but it sucks..

Don't worry, we have it all... Even mailservers and ****.. Soo free email to all when Qmail does what it's told.

But Zeltren has little time to set up our "for fun" servers, appearently he has clients paying for his time.. as he hosts other websites.. But he promised me that it would be up and running shortly.
