Has anyone here subscribed to Transgaming and downloaded the new prepackaged version of WineX? Im just curious because everybody is talking about how HalfLife and other stuff is working, but with mine it says that I need a different version of Windows than I currently have. The only game I can kinda get installed is Diablo II. The installer at least works with that, but I havent gotten around the CD swapping yet. With other installers, as soon as it starts to install it pops up an error message saying I need a different version of Windows. So I am assuming that you guys are using the older version of WineX (evil3d.net/~thunderbird) or whatever. If anybody is using the new version, I'd like to know if you have gotten HalfLife to work and how.

you can change the windows version by running a --winver win95 (or something similar to that flag [check out www.winehq.com (http://www.winehq.com) ]
ex.

wine --winver win95 sol.exe

you should be able to run sol.exe w/ the correct path.
if you are running RH check this post I made out (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=18&t=000959)

I'm just using straight Wine. I'll give it the --winver=win98 flag, and it seems to work.

I think the default Windows version to report to apps is 3.1, so that'd be your problem.

I had that error a lot too. I discovered that winex is not a binary, but a script. Edit it and add that "--winver win98" to like these guys said. It should be obvious where to do this, right where is calls the wine binary.

Antitrustworthy it's simple. I just download the WineX RPM, installed it and installed HL with the "winver win98" tag. Oh and yes I'm a subscribers to TransGaming WineX voting system.
